Luminary controls

Default keybindings

Luminary ships with a fairly standard keyboard and mouse setup for an action RPG. It was designed to keep your left hand on movement and your right hand on the camera, with the most important combat actions mapped to the mouse buttons. The full default layout is listed below.

Gamepad layout

If you prefer a controller, Luminary maps almost everything to a standard gamepad scheme. The right bumper and trigger are used together for parrying and heavy attacks, which takes a little practice to get used to.

  • Left stick - Move

  • Right stick - Camera, press to lock on

  • A - Jump / interact

  • B - Dash / dodge roll

  • X - Use lantern

  • Y - Light Burst

  • RT - Light attack

  • RB - Heavy attack

  • LT - Hold to block, tap to parry

  • LB - Ability 1

  • D-pad up and down - Cycle abilities

  • D-pad left and right - Cycle quick items

Rebinding

Every action in the game can be rebound from the Options menu under Controls. The game supports separate bindings for keyboard and gamepad, so you can switch between the two without messing up your setup. Your rebinds are saved per character, not globally, which is useful if you play one character with keyboard and another with a controller.

Tip

If you find the default parry on right click too slow, try binding it to a side mouse button. Many players also prefer moving the dash off Shift and onto a mouse thumb button so you can keep all four fingers on movement.

"We wanted the player to never have to take their fingers off the movement keys during combat. If you find yourself reaching for a menu button in the middle of a fight, that is a problem we are happy to fix."

Patch 1.2 developer notes

Accessibility notes

Luminary includes a hold vs. toggle option for blocking and walking, and a "camera assist" toggle that slightly slows aim assist on enemies. You can also remap the lock-on to be a toggle instead of a hold, which helps if you like keeping lock-on active during long fights.

Warning

Warning

Quick save with F5 is disabled during boss fights and inside the Shifting Hollow area. Do not rely on it as a panic button, the game will ignore the input in those zones.
